Britons seeking romantic food ideas for Valentines Day should head to Asda and pick up some oysters, which are considered one of the most romantic of delicacies.
The supermarket chain has slashed the price of rock oysters ahead of St Valentine's Day to just 25p each, which is around half the price charged by its major rivals.
The low price is also a tenth of the cost of oysters at upmarket department store Fortnum and Mason and around a third of the 70p price charged by decent fishmongers.
The rock oysters are cultivated in the Strangford Loch in Ireland and are of very high quality, according to Asda .
The move by the UKs second-largest grocery retailer comes as research shows more and more Brits are looking for Valentines Day bargains.
According to Sainsbury', 40 per cent of British men who bought flowers for their loved ones last Valentines Day spent a maximum of just £4 on their bouquet .
Martin Glass, Asdas shellfish buyer said: "Were always looking for ways to help our customers live the life of luxury and hope our affordable oysters will leave some change in our shoppers pockets this Valentines Day ."
