Forget oysters its coffee that turns women on

Fri, 27 Jan 2006

American researchers have found that coffee makes women frisky.

The researchers found that the female rats who were subjected to caffeine mated again much sooner that expected.

However, to achieve this state of friskiness, a woman will have to drink ten cups of coffee in a row. This is based on a woman who is approximately ten stone in weight.

She may want to stick to the other well known aphrodisiacs such as oysters and ginseng.

Researchers at Southwestern University in Texas have explained the attraction as caffeine awakens a part of the brain that causes women to become aroused if taken in sufficient quantities.

They also added that if women take such doses of caffeine it will lead to them having sex more often.

Until the findings of this research, it was thought that caffeine had the opposite effect of desire.

Dr Fay Guarraci, assistant professor of psychology at Southwestern University said the amount of caffeine given to women was enough to ‘switch on’ their sexual appetite. She said, "Caffeine is the most widely used stimulant and it doesn’t seem to have as many negative side effects as other stimulants, such as the drug speed.

"Lots of research has been dedicated to studying male sexual behaviour and the motivation but much less has been done on females.

"We found the alteration of behaviour in female rats was not merely an increase in activity that they couldn’t control. The behaviour was specifically directed at a sexually active partner, a male rat, rather than a social partner, a female rat."

Caffeine is commonly used to help keep people more alert as it’s a stimulant. But there is still much debate on the long term effects on people’s health. Strong coffee has long been known to cause blood sugar levels to soar and then come crashing down which leads to tiredness.

However it also helps to boost adrenalin levels and metabolic rates that helps people feel more alert.
